As part of Jewels of the Desert's commitment to representing the history and beauty of Middle Eastern dance to the public and promoting cultural understanding through dance, the troupe offers a variety of educational programs suitable for all ages.  Programs are presented by Sariana, troupe artistic director, who holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of California at Davis and a M.A. in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University.

Cultural Dance Program

This program consists of a short explanation of the history and cultural context of Middle Eastern dance and a 10-15 minute dance performance of folkloric styles.  This program includes participation by the audience through clapping, and can also extend to teaching the audience a short line dance.  Program content and presentation is adapted to the age range and background of the target audience. 

Cultural Dance Program and Multi-Media Presentation

This program includes the elements of the above program with an extended explanation of the Middle Eastern region with a Powerpoint presentation including maps and relevant images.

Custom Designed Program

Sariana can custom design a presentation for your cultural event or program with emphasis on certain dance styles or regions of the Middle East.  Contact Sariana to discuss your educational needs.

Prices for educational programs vary dependent upon the organization making the request.  Public schools and some other educational and non-profit agencies qualify to receive presentations free-of-charge.  Contact Sariana for details.
